In 1990 I started working with Eggshells after The Faberge Exhibit was here in San Diego. I was so intrigued. I was mesmerized by the thought of what could be done with an eggshellI started because of a friend who I had met through my real Job as a Nurse. A patient started talking about making eggshells into ArtI originally was Taught by Art Carrillo. He taught me a Decoupage egg. While learning from Art I had the pleasure of meeting Sylvia Fox and in turn Friend of a lifetime Janie Blair. Everyone I talk to I learn from so its very hard to say one individual. But after 29 years and counting I love working on EggshellsI now have a Gallery /Working Studio in Spanish Village and can Teach throughout the year depending on Season. I Have taken a detour and now Make Eggshell Kaleidoscopes.I used to go to the egg shows at first to buy supplies and then I started going and selling and Teaching at the shows but my health prevents me from do so nowIn creating an egg what makes it so special is how far you can push the limit to create what you see. From the exterior of the egg and its finish to the most minute detail inside. Always knowing that this is a one of a kind pieces that you have created. My inspiration and reason for can be expressed with one simple look of a child’s face when they look at their first Kaleidoscope. The Awe, the sparkle in the eye and the smile is priceless. Most intriguing is when an adult looks at a piece that you spent a very long time creating and you see the same look and awe and sparkle in their eyes also.At first my Family thought that it was another one of my scatterbrain ideas. Ill never get anywhere with it. So I took all that and put all my energy into what I have created over the last 30 yearsKaleidoscopes are my passion for reasons stated above The ever changing color creating each one individually. The uniqueness of working on eggs has been very therapeutic for me.While I was teaching a Kaleidoscope class in San Francisco I was making a Kaleidoscope and one of the people watching asked if it were for sale. Before I could say yes it would be a lady across from the table said no I already bought it. I had to make two others for the ladies that wanted them. Well about a month Later I receive a picture in the mail and the one lady who bought the first one had given it to the Dali lama while he was on a visit to San Francisco. That started my belief in myself and knowing it could only be Good Karma from then on.
