Sarah Myriam Winston has been designing, dyeing and weaving apparel and accessories, as well as preserving collectible textiles for over two decades. A graduate of San Diego State University, she found her passion when enrolling in the graduate program for textile applied design in 2000. Over the years, her work has been featured in various group exhibitions such as the Visual Art Museum or San Bernardino College Art gallery. She has received 1st place and honors at California Weavers’ Conference, and Fiber Art shows.
Her dual cultural heritage from Switzerland and Nigeria is reflected in her hand-dyed, handwoven work. Her sources of inspiration are the harmonious colors and texture of nature, and her mentors are the anonymous weavers and dyers of South Asia, Japan or West Africa. She uses the beauty of noble material such as linen, silk, hemp or alpaca fused with the harmonious colors of natural dyes and translates traditional techniques into simple, elegant wearable pieces.
